The United States values Albania as a worthy NATO ally and a leading country in the Western Balkans. Defense Minister Olta Xhacka, during her official visit to the US, was received by US Secretary of Defense James Mattis.
“Albania has shown that its geographic size is far less important than its engagement in the Alliance. As a determined ally, Albania strikes harder than its weight”, Secretary Mattis said.
He thanked Albania for its commitment to NATO and its involvement in all Alliance operations.
“You are our ally not only by the uniform but by the all aspects, you will always have our aid”, the US Secretary of Defense further added.
Minister Xhaçka on behalf of the Albanian Government thanked Secretary of State Mattis for the irreplaceable and massive support that the United States has given to Albanian Armed Forces for missions and operations, educational opportunities, trainings for the military personnel; ability-building skills that were all important to prepare the armies for the challenges.
“We believe the projection of stability is crucial to peace, security, stability and democracy. The Western Balkans is a Western-oriented region. We share and protect the same principles and values and welcome the strengthening of our strategic partnership”, Minister Xhaçka highlighted.
Further on, the Defense Minister suggested US defense officials to look at Albania’s ability to serve as a contact point in the Western Balkans region. According to her, a US or NATO presence could be a clear demonstration that this region has not been forgotten by the allies./tvklan.al
