Albanian Foreign Minister Ditmir Bushati met with Greek Counterpart Nikolaos Kotzias in Athens, where they discussed bilateral relation and regional issues, in particular the crisis in Macedonia.

“Talks dwelt on the entire cooperation spectrum and strategic partnership between the two countries, developments in the region, current security challenges and the need for a better interaction in facing them at regional level and beyond,” Albanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

According to the ministry, Bushati and Kotzias “discussed the latest developments in the region, particularly over the situation in Macedonia, expressed their concern over the intensification of the current crisis and highlighted the need for a quick reflection to the benefit of the country’s stability and the European future of Macedonia.”

Macedonian Presiden Ivanov has refused to entrust the mandate to form the new government to social democrat leader Zoran Zaev, who has succeed in forming a majority within a parliament with Albanian parties.

The EU’s high representative Federica Mogherini called Thursday the Macedonian President to reverse his decision and give the mandate to Zaev.

On March 2nd and 3rd, Bushati is paying a working visit in Athens, upon invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Greece, Nikolaos Kotzias.

Albanian ministry said that Bushati and Kotzias also paid special attention to addressing issues with historical background, present and future ones, which have already been placed on the discussion table between the parties, aiming at finding sustainable modalities for their final address. Two countries have some open issues among them, with the sea dispute and the Cameria issue topping the agenda./tvklan.al
