An Albanian member of parliament has resigned from the post, an hour before the Central Election Commission was scheduled to meet and decide his fate.

Armando Prenga, an MP for ruling Socialist Party handed over to the parliament the resignation letter on Monday.

In the letter for the Parliament Speaker Ilir Meta, Prenga said he had decided to resign to ensure his personal and family’s peace, despite the decriminalization law foresees a fine not his mandate’s interruption.

Prenga’s MP mandate caused a row between the Central Election Commission (CEC) and Albanian General Prosecutor Office, after the last requesed CEC to interrupt his mandate. The Central Election Commission requested Friday additional information from the prosecution to take the decision. But, the prosecution replied that only the hiding of the Kurbin Court’s sentence from the self-declaration form was enough to take the decision.

Armando Prenga was elected twice MP in Lezha district. He is the second MP to resign from the same district, after Arben Ndoka.

Ndoka’s mandate can pass to the Socialist Movement for Integration after even the last MP candidate from the Socialist Party in Lezha results to have been sentenced for corruption./tvklan.al
