“There can be no Macedonia without Albanians dear President,” Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama warned Macedonian President Gjeorge Ivanov on Wednesday.

Rama said in a Twitter post that Albanian is not the language of the enemy.

“Mister Ivanov, Albanian isn’t the enemy’s language but the language of a state-forming nation in Macedonia,” Rama said.

Rama’s comments came hours after Macedonian President refused to give the mandate to form the new government to the SDSM leader, Zoran Zaev, who has managed to take 67 signatures, up from 61 needed, to form the government thanks to coalition with Albanian parties.

Addressing the nation on Wednesday, President Gjeorge Ivanov said he cannot give the mandate to form a government to the social Democrats (SDSM) leader Zoran Zaev, who refrained to denounce the so-called Albanian platform.

“Neither the Constitution not my conscience allow me to give the mandate to somebody who threatens the sovereignty and the integrity of the Republic of Macedonia,” he said.

The main condition of Albanian parties to give their support for the new government has been declaring the Albanian language as the second official language of Macedonia.

Ivanov accused that this platform was Tirana’s platform.

Former Prime Minister Nikolla Gruevski failed to form the new ruling coalition, and according to the constitution the mandate must be given to Zaev. If Zaev fails to form the new government, Macedonia will head new elections.
