Albanian President Bujar Nishani was awarded Friday the title of Honorary Doctor of the Azerbaijan University of Languages.

Azerbaijani Press Agency (APA) said a ceremony was held at the university on Friday, where the University rector Afgan Abdullayev hailed the fact that Azerbaijan and Albania “support each other in the issue of territorial integrity and sovereignty.”

The news was confirmed also by Albanian Presidency. In a statement published Friday, the presidency said the title Honorary Doctor was awarded to a range of European and world personalities, but it was the first time it was awarded to an Albanian President.

The statement said Nishani praised Albanian-Azeri very good and intense relations, especially in the last two years, and expressed the need to do more as for cultural and educational exchanges.
