Seven Greek soldiers of Albanian origin who posted on Facebook a photo with their hands making the symbol of the Albanian flag’s eagle could face possible sentences of 5 years in prison, Greek media says.

According to the Greek Newspaper “Protothema”, the Hellenic Army General Staff suggested they would only be penalized with negative transfers, but Greek Defense Minister, Panos Kammenos, called for the highest degree of strictness both in the accountability of the perpetrators and the penalties handed down.

Kammenos, once returned from a trip in the U.S. and briefed on the news, ordered the immediate involvement in the case of the military prosecutor of Ioannina.

According to the Military investigations published in the Greek media, the seven soldiers took the photo in a bootcamp at Messolongi, western Greece.

Albanian authorities have not commented the incident yet./tvklan.al
