By order of the prosecutor’s office, police detained on Thursday evening Shkëlqim Miri, Judge of Appeal Tirana . He is allegedly accused of passive corruption. Miri was under investigation since January 2017, by the Serious Crimes Prosecution, suspected of altering the indictment for a convict for double murder.
In exchange for 20 thousand euros, the judge has changed the retraining of the criminal offense for Gentian Doda, accused of a murder committed in 1997. From murder by decision of the Tirana Appeal Court, Doda is accused of serious injury.
The Serious Crimes Prosecution in cooperation with the police searched the judge’s apartment midday Thursday, where he found an amount of money.
Currently, the judge is being held in detention cells at the Police Directorate of Tirana. The 46-year-old was questioned by the prosecution in the presence of his defense lawyer Ardian Visha. The sources explain that Miri has said the money are his family savings.
At the end of the questioning session, which lasted only 30 minutes, his lawyer declined to speak.
