President Hashim Thaci discussed the possibility of Kosovo becoming an INTERPOL member with the Secretary General of the Organization, Jurgen Stock.

The meeting was held at the sidelines of the Security Conference in Munih, Germany.

President Thaçi said that Kosovo fulfills all the conditions for membership in INTERPOL adding that “we need INTERPOL, but INTERPOL needs Kosovo as well, for as quick as possible information”.

On the other side, Stock emphasized that INTERPOL is open for Kosovo and awaits that the internal procedures to be completed in order to initiate reviewing Kosovo’s application for membership.

Another key topic at the meeting was the issue of the detention of the citizens of Kosovo with Serbia’s arrest warrants. Thaci said that such arrest warrants are unsustainable and politically motivated and requested their cancellation.

In January this year, former Kosovo Prime Minister and the leader of Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, was arrested and released on bail later in France. He has been detained upon a Serbian Arrest Warrant released in 2004, despite being found innocent from the International Tribunal of Hague.

Many former Kosovo Liberation Army leaders are wanted by Serbia, accused of crimes during Kosovo war (1998-1999). Kosovo, which declared the independence from Serbia in 2008, says the arrest warrants are politically motivated as well as null and void, as they were issued by the Serbia and Montenegro, an entity that does not exist anymore after Montenegro declared independence on June, 3, 2006.

Kosovo Liberation Army leaders say they have fought against Serbian army, which was an occupying army, and not against Serbian civilians as Belgrade pretends. /tvklan.al
