Kosovo leaders are grateful to Bangladeshi people and government, which decided early on Monday to recognize Kosovo as an independent and sovereign country.

With this approval, Bangladesh becomes 114th country to recognize Kosovo’s independence.

Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, wrote on Twitter: “Thank you people & government of Bangladesh for recognising our Republic of Kosovo as sovereign & independent. This is an unstoppable process!”

“Great news from Bangladesh, they have just recognized Kosovo,” said Parliament Speaker and Democratic Party Leader Kadri Veseli. “Looking fwd to an era of friendly bilateral cooperation with the people and the government of Bangladesh.”

Kosovo Foreign Minister Enver Hoxhaj said he was “Happy to announce that Bangladesh has recognized Kosovo as independent country. Thanks to the Government and people of Bangladesh.”

Kosovo declared its independence on Feb, 17, 2008 and has been recognized by 114 countries, including the U.S., Germany, France, Britain and Italy.

Serbia insists to not recognize the youngest country in Europe and is trying to block its membership to international organizations.

Kosovo has managed to become part of FIFA and UEFA last year but still is not a UN member country. /tvklan.al
