The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, started Wednesday his four-day long Western Balkans tour.

Before flying to Montenegro, Mogherini said the tour is to ensure “the process of integration of these countries into the Union is irreversible.”

“For the European Union the work with the Western Balkans, a region in the heart of Europe, is a key priority. I work to see every single one of the Western Balkans partners move forward on the reform path, towards the European Union, to ensure the process is irreversible. Regional cooperation and good neighborly relations remain essential in this context”, said Mogherini.

After visiting Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Serbia Mogherini will travel to Tirana, Albania on March, 3, where she will meet with Presidenet Nishani, Prime Minister Edi Rama, representatives of Parliamentary parties and will address the University of Tirana.

From Tirana, Mogherini will travel to Kosovo to meet with President Thaci, Prime Minister Mustafa, Parliament Speaker Veseli. Mogherini will later travel to northern Kosovan city of Mitrovica, to inaugurate Ibri bridge, joining two ethnic communities in the country.

Mogherini’s visit comes at a time when national and political tensions raised in Balkans. Albanian opposition is at the streets requesting Rama’s resignation and a caretaker government, while Macedonia may head new snap elections if President Ivanov insists in refusing to give mandate to form the new government to Zoran Zaev. /tvklan.al
