European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini said that Albanian politics has shown willingness in terms of the fight against cannabis traffic, referring here to “Tahiri” issue.

During a conference in Brussels with the Albanian Foreign Minister, Mogherini was asked by journalist Erisa Zyka if political will was shown when the Albanian Parliament voted against the request for the arrest of former Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri in connection with drug trafficking investigations.

Federica Mogherini said that the results of investigations that are still under development against Tahiri should be expected, but stressed that drug trafficking should be treated with great seriousness and that Albania has shown political will.

“Cultivation and drug trafficking should be treated seriously. Do not comment on investigations that are still ongoing and it would not be correct for anyone to comment on the judiciary. Drug trafficking is a key EU priority that we share with Albania and is one of the key elements in our path forward. I see determination and I see cooperation between law enforcement agencies. I see political will, of course we have to look at clear results,”
