Albanian police has sued Democratic Party Leader Lulzim Basha for inciting calls for violence, but the opposition leader refuted claims saying he had been misunderstood.

The Police said Saturday in a statement that Basha was sued for his speech in front of protesters where he said: “You want a war? A war it will be. Puncture the car tires, break the glasses. Time will come to drag (officials) at this square.”

If found guilty, Basha will face up to three years in prison.

Later on Saturday, replying to police claims, Basha said: “It is not a call for violence. Do you know why? It is not that the format of a war calls. There is another format and formula for war call.”

“That is a fight for Democratic Albania, that is a fight for European Albania,” Basha said, saying he had been misunderstood.

However, the opposition leader warned: “ We have not provoked anyone, but if you provoke us you must know that we will not remain as sheep, but will hit back harshly.”

Opposition supporters have been occupying the boulevard in front of Prime Ministry building in Capital Tirana since February 18. They are also boycotting the parliament, saying that for the time its supporters will be at the square they would not come back.

Albanian Democratic Party wants Prime Minister Edi Rama’s resignations and the establishment of a caretaker government as a guarantor for the free and fair elections.

Albania is scheduled to hold new general elections on June 18, but the opposition is insisting there will be no election in the country with that government./tvklan.al
