Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Monday that thanks to the comprehensive reforms undertaken by his government Albanians are speeding less money on health service today compared to four years ago.

“Thanks to our reforms the entire Albanian population has free access to the health service,” Rama said, speaking at a meeting held in Durres city.

“600 000 uninsured Albanians will take the reimbursed pills. Citizens are all becoming equal as for the access on health service. Now the family doctor is free and service tariffs are symbolic,” Rama said.

Democratic Party reacted to Rama’s comments saying the health service reform is one of the greatest failures of the Socialist government.

“Edi Rama’s biggest lie is the free health service,” Albana Vokshi, an MP for the Democratic Party said Monday.

Vokshi said that Albanian people’s contributions to the state budged rose to 25 per cent in 2017 from 18 per cent in 2013. On the other hand, Vokshi quoted a World Bank report saying that “over 50 per cent of Albanian people’s spending on health service comes from their pockets.”

Speaking about PM’s promise for reimbursed pills for 600 000 uninsured Albanians, Vokshi said that was “another lie” from the Prime Minister in the wake of new general elections.
