Tirana has become the host of the European Commission’s Conference on Media Days, the EU – the Western Balkans. Invited at the conference to be held on 9 and 10 November, Prime Minister Rama has given his opinion on the Albanian media.

At a conference attended by journalists from different EU and Balkan countries, the Prime Minister highlighted the local media, saying its segments have turned into unreliable public institutions.

“The public figures dignity in Albania is infringed on a daily basis by the media. This way of doing should come to an end for once and forever. Media should be used as a weapon in defense on freedom and democracy, not as an instrument to kill this freedom and the principles of which it is based. The license to operate in the media sector is used as a license for witch hunt. Media in Albania has been transformed into an unreliable institution due to the massive spreading of fake news practice”,

declared Rama.

The conference was assessed by Commissioner Johannes Hahn, who praised that

“freedom of press is a fundamental value of the EU and as such a stone of the enlargement process with a strong and independent press as a catalyst for democratic transformation”.
