Kosovo’s membership in NATO and Balkan countries that aren’t still part of the alliance, is essential for the security in the region, said Prime Minister Edi Rama.

This message was addressed to the NATO’s Military Committee, while saying that Albania has the interest and the responsibility to transform our country into a factor of prosperity.

“However, the NATO map lacks Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo and Macedonia. This area, still not organically included in the European security architecture, is a factor of strategic ambiguity for our Alliance. Like a territory where third actors see vulnerabilities and opportunities for insight.”

Prime Minister Rama said the region successfully faced an anti-Atlantic wave that aimed at Montenegro’s destabilization, and underlined that Serbia’s approach to NATO remains a concern.

“After the last elections, it seems that Serbia has given some signals in favor of a new political approach, regarding to NATO and the European Union. However, Serbian insistence on a different security formula from the countries of the region complicates the prospect of a clear and stable architecture. “

Regarding Albania’s contribution to the Alliance, Albania will increase military spending through the involvement of the Armed Forces in civilian services.

Albania has been a member of NATO since 2009 and participates in peacekeeping missions in Afghanistan, Bosnia, Kosovo, the Aegean Sea and Mali./tvklan.al
