The British Embassy in Albania called on all political parties to participate upcoming general elections and make sure they will be free from violence.

“The UK calls on all political parties to engage constructively to ensure that the forthcoming elections are fully participatory. It would be regrettable if parties chose not to participate,” the Embassy said in a statement.

The British Embassy said that the Albanian electorate deserves the right to an election which provides them with the widest possible choice.

“We call upon all members of all political parties to ensure that the run up to these elections, and the elections themselves, are free from violence”, it said.

Albania is stuck in a political crisis, with opposition parties that have boycotted the parliament and are protesting in front of Prime Ministry Building since February 18.

The Democratic Party led opposition has asked Prime Minister Edi Rama to resign in favor of a caretaker government as a guarantor for free and fair elections.

Prime Minister Edi Rama and Basha failed to reach an agreement to end the deadlock on Wednesday, in talks mediated by President Nishani.  

Albania is scheduled to hold general elections on June 18, but opposition parties are not registered and instst there can be no elections in the country in that date./tvklan.al
