Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure is studying the area in southern Albania to build a new airport.

According to the documents seen by Klan Television, the ministry has allocated $ 250,000 for a study, which will analyze where in  the south should the new airport be build.

One of the main alternatives seems to be Saranda city, an Albanian coastal city near Greece’s Corfu island.

The study should calculate the passenger flow, a crucial element for attracting management companies.

Even if the study will be concluded in 2016, the construction will not start within this year as it is not planned in the budget.

Sources from the Civil Aviation say that no company has shown interest for the Kukes Airport, as they are afraid of the possible low passenger flow.

Kukes Airport, at the north of Albania, needs some minor investments to start functioning.

Albania remains the country with the highest flying ticket prices in the region, due to the extremely high tariffs that the company running  the Tirana International Airport requests from the airline companies./tvklan.al
