Albanian government has decided to make a concession agreement for Kukësi airport. The offer was presented by the merger of the companies “Kastrati” & “T.M.D Systems LTD” and in the government meeting it is decided to approve the 8% bonus point for the technical and financial result of the unsolicited proposal.

Considering this government’s decision on the Kukës Airport and the parallel project for the Vlora Airport, it is expected that the prices of flights to Albanian citizens abroad will decrease significantly due to the competition.

At the moment Rinas Airport is the only one to offer flights abroad. The monopoly situation has caused that since 2008, any money generated is credited to the personal accounts of the concessionaire’s shareholders.

According to calculations made by the Ministry of Finance and Economy, it turns out that from 2005 until today, this concession has reached $ 130 million net profits.

Some official data published a few days ago by Tv Klan show that Albania’s only airport has tariffs 2 to 3 times higher than the region, a fact accepted by the Competition Authority.

These fees make ticket prices the most expensive in the region and according to the data, the concession company benefits 25% of the tickets price./tvklan.al
