The President of the Republic, Ilir Meta, was received today by the President of the Bundestag of Germany, Dr. Wolfgang Schäuble.
President Meta expressed deep appreciation for the comprehensive assistance and support that Germany has given to Albania and the Albanians, during the 30 years of bilateral diplomatic cooperation.
Specifically, President Meta praised Germany’s role and engagement towards the integration of Albania and other Western Balkan countries into the European Bahraini.
Referring to the progress made in meeting key priorities, President Meta stressed the tremendous importance of a positive decision by the German Bundestag in favor of opening accession negotiations with Albania and Macedonia.
Leaving the negotiations will only help us to better address all priorities and meet the necessary standards and criteria and would give a very positive signal to all forces in the region – President Meta underlined.
During the meeting, a promising and encouraging agreement was reached between the Greek and Macedonian governments for resolving the issue of the name of Macedonia and emphasized the importance of completing the final phase of the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
Both interlocutors shared concern over security issues that threaten the Western Balkans region and stressed the need for closer co-operation in this regard, both at the bilateral level as well as in the regional and European level./tvklan.al
