Minister of Interior, Fatmir Xhafaj, stated that he will not resign over the Democratic Party’s accusations.

“The Prime Minister has never asked me to resign. I see no valid reason which could cause my resignation”.

During a press conference, Xhafaj categorically denied to have favored his brother Agron Xhafaj. The latter was sentenced in absentee to 7 years imprisonment in Italy for drug trafficking.

He said that his brother never avoided investigation, and the sentence has been in effect for years.

Regarding the wire-tapping published by DP , the minister considered it bogus and manipulative. For this, Xhafaj emphasized that he would ask the Prosecution to initiate investigations to detect all involved persons.

“Regarding allegations of my brother’s involvement in drug trafficking, it’s all defamation. I would have taken all legal and moral responsibilities if there is a truth about these charges. Since 2002 my brother has lived in Albania and has not had any legal problems in the territory of the Republic of Albania. I did not want to deal with rhetoric, but now that these intrigues crossed the line, they should get a response. The wire tapping is a manipulation. We will publicly ask the Prosecutor’s Office today for quick actions to find all those involved in this criminal issue. I am not scared. No one can blackmail me. The Special Prosecution Against Corruption and the National Bureau of Investigation will start operating and crime will lose terrain. No one can stop me from achieving my goals”,

Xhafaj said.

As for the opposition’s accusations of falsifying an article in the Criminal Procedure Code, Minister Xhafaj said it’s the most ridiculous accusation.

“Regarding code falsification, it’s the most ridiculous charge I’ve heard. Ridiculous all these people. I strongly advocate it as an article in line with the Convention. The article is an international standard, we did not invent it”
