The European Union Ambassador to Tirana, Romana Vlahutin, has commented on the recent discussion over the refugee camps in Albania. The senior diplomat explained that there is no such request by the European Union and considered these only as rumors.

“There are only rumors. There is no such information, no such request”.

Vlahutin spoke about opening negotiations with Albania. According to her, Albania received an unconditional recommendation from the European Commission.

The European Commission has expressed a very clear opinion. It has issued a very clear unconditional recommendation that Albania should open membership talks. But when it comes to the council, there are 28 member states that have to unanimously agree and it is their sovereign right to do so.

The decision of the European Council must be unanimous. The skeptical countries are France, The Netherlands and Denmark./tvklan.al
