Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi has overthrown the possibility of exchanging Kosovo’s territories with Serbia in exchange for a final agreement between the two countries. In an outcry to the Pristina media, the President of Kosovo said that it was not about partitioning the country.

“As the country’s president, I assure you that there will be no power that will force us to discuss the division of Kosovo”.

In the same line with Thaçi is the Albanian Foreign Minister, Ditmir Bushati. In an interview he gave in Washington for the Atlantic Council Executive Vice President Damon Wilson, Bushati warned that the exchange of territories between Kosovo and Serbia would open an unpredictable cycle.

“I think that would go against the spirit of all the efforts made in the Balkans over the last three decades. It would go against the spirit of the Helsinki Final Act and other international legal documents. We must be very careful not to open Pandora’s box for other cases in the region”.

Pronunciation of the Albanian Foreign Minister for the exchange of territories between Kosovo and Serbia is rare for this topic. But while in Pristina and Tirana this proposal is rejected, in Belgrade is an idea that is getting more support among Serbian politicians. In an article by The Economist a few months ago, it was said that the chain effect of such a scenario is unpredictable./tvklan.al
