A survey conducted by the World Bank on the Albanian employment market shows that 30% of workplaces are informal, while in recent years the biggest increase in jobs is seen in the agricultural sector.

The report recommends that government policies to be geared towards supporting the manufacturing sectors, such as energy, industry and infrastructure, which create a steady economic growth and provide higher salaries.

“The highest number of unemployed people dominates urban areas such as Tirana, Vlora or Durrës, the cities that have the largest population in Albania. Agriculture continues to absorb 38% of the total employed, while production and services are less developed”,

the study says.

As a problem for curbing new jobs, the World Bank also records work taxes, which reduce demand and increase entrepreneurial costs. “The higher the tax rate, the lower the incentives to work”, the World Bank says.

The employment rate in Albania increased during the first three months of the year by 5%, while unemployment fell to the lowest level in the last 10 years./tvklan.al
