Hundreds of Democratic Party and opposition supporters have passed the night at the tents set up at the boulevard in front of Prime Ministry building in Tirana, requesting Prime Minister’s resignation to pave the way for a caretaker government to guarantee free and fair elections.

They have passed Saturday night playing chess and other games as well as with music. Many members of the parliament and the Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha were among those who stayed outside.

Lulzim Basha vowed Sunday that the opposition will not step back from its request for a caretaker government to guarantee free and fair elections.

Albania is scheduled to hold general elections on June 18, 2017, but the opposition is insisting that the elections can be free and fair only if the electronic voting system will be implemented. The government insists that there is no time for the project to be implemented as the elections will be held months later.

Albanian Prime Minister has not yet come to the Prime Ministry since the protest started Yesterday, but he is seen drinking coffee at a hotel meters away from Democratic Party’s tents.

Holding free and fair elections is one of the key EU’ conditions to Tirana for starting the EU accession negotiations./tvklan.al
