Democratic Party Chairman Lulzim Basha accused Interior Minister Fatmir Xhafaj that by orders of Prime Minister Edi Rama has overrun the operation for the arrest of three former senior police officers.
“One thing I can say for sure is that the deconspiration of the action to arrest the heads of police was made by Fatmir Xhafaj by Rama’s order to protect these people and Saimir Tahiri. The reason for the desertion is clear, Edi Rama could not allow the arrest of people who would play a role in the direct incrimination of Saimir Tahiri, Fatmir Xhafa and Edi Rama himself”.
He said the former Vlora Police Director has defended Fatmir Xhafaj’s brother, and the latter could not allow his arrest.
Basha said the state police and the Interior Ministry have functioned as a criminal organization.
“There is a need for a comprehensive reform of the Ministry of Interior and the police by professional teams, this can not happen as long as the process is personally controlled by Edi Rama. The first step should be the resignation of Edi Rama”
