After the flood situation in the country was improved, Prime Minister Edi Rama travels to Brussels on Monday where he will meet European Union leaders in a new effort to boost the opening of Albania’s accession negotiations to the Union.

“EuReporter” writes that Prime Minister Rama will meet with President of the Council of Europe Donald Tusk, while on Tuesday will talk with the President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani.

The news is confirmed by the prime minister’s office, according to which Rama will meet Tusk at 18:00, and after the bilateral meeting, the leaders will hold a press conference.

As was announced last month by Rama himself, the Albanian Prime Minister is also expected to meet with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker.

Rama hopes to open negotiations with the EU within a short time, though EU Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn has drawn attention to some of the obstacles to be overcome, including drug trafficking, lack of transparency and the spread of corruption.

Albania officially applied for joining the EU in 2009, while in October 2012 the EU Commission recommended granting the status of candidate country./tvklan.al
