Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama promised the family members of those killed on January 21-st, six years ago, that the perpetrators of what he called a “state massacre” would be put before justice after the implementation of the judicial reform.

Four protesters were killed in January 2011 in front of Albanian Prime Ministry while protesting against the government of then the Prime Minister Sali Berisha. The protest, which turned violent, was called by the opposition leader of the time, Edi Rama.

Rama, who occupies the post of Albanian PM since 2013 has failed to satisfy the family members of those killed.

“Today, thanks to the judicial reform, the justice for the January 21st is closer than ever,” Rama told them at the Palace of Brigades, in Tirana, while commemorating the sixth anniversary of the killings.

Rama said that the option of getting justice for the killings “is more realistic than ever before” and the retrial would be possible after the judicial reform.

“We have recognized de facto (the state crime) and we are determined to recognize de jure even at the level of the Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, to enable the opening of the investigations,” Rama said, adding that the “reopening of the investigations cannot end as in the first time” when the judicial system was corrupt.

Former Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha and former Interior Minister, now the leader of Democratic Party in opposition, Lulzim Basha, have insisted that Albanian security forces were protecting the Prime Ministry against protester’s violence on January 2011./tvklan.al
