Drafting the legal draft for Vetting in the State Police, the government intends to have it finalized by December 2017. Interior Minister Fatmir Xhafaj stated that international partners are involved in this process and it is soon to say how effective it will be affected by Vetting in the police ranks.

“I find it very difficult to say that they will not meet the criteria and standards that will be set for not being part of the State Police structures. Vetting is in the process of drafting the legal framework. We will gradually move to regulatory acts with hope, together with the international assistance we have committed to this process, we can conclude this year”.

Asked about the 20 police officers to whom the Classified Information Security Directorate has removed access to important information, Xhafaj said that Vetting would be expected for them as well, provisionally moving from their positions.

“This is not an obligation to suspend it, to remove it at least for the moment if, I do not know what that will result with other factors in the Vetting framework but can not stay in those jobs who possess, or operate with classified documents”.
