The European Commission will recommend the opening of negotiations with Albania for EU membership. The international media published details of the progress report that will be published on 17 April. It confirms for the first time the opening of negotiations with Albania since 2014 when the country received the candidate status. The report assesses the progress made with the reforms in public administration and the justice system.

“The reform on the public administration has been consolidated in order to increase its professionalism and its depoliticisation. Further action has been taken to strengthen the independence, efficiency and accountability of judicial institutions, notably through advancing the implementation of a comprehensive justice reform”

But the report confirms that the European Commission continues to keep monitoring the Vetting.

“The ongoing, concrete and tangible results in the re-evaluation of judges and prosecutors will be crucial for the Albania’s further progress”.

Prior to the publication of the progress report, the foreign ministers of the member states of the European Union discuss in Luxembourg for the Western Balkans. Part of the discussion is also how they will refer to Kosovo, which has not yet been recognized by 5 member states of the union.

The Progress Report will be on focus also during the High Representative for Foreign Policy of Federica Mogherini’s visit, which arrives in Tirana on Tuesday afternoon. She will meet with Prime Minister Rama, President Meta and opposition leader Basha. With her visit to Albania, Mogerini starts the three-day tour of the Western Balkans, followed by Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro./tvklan.al
