Parliament voted today against  Serious Crimes Prosecution’s request for issuing the authorization of MP Saimir Tahiri arrest.

As warned, Socialist MPs voted against the prosecution request to lift the immunity of Tahiri paving the way for his arrest due to the alleged ties with drug trafficking.

Parliament authorized only the apartment inspection but not Tahiri’s arrest as according to the majority, prosecution does not have sufficient evidence for the arrest of former Interior Minister Tahiri.

Last week, Serious Crimes Prosecution addressed the Mandate and Immunity Council with a request for the removal of Tahiri’s immunity, for the purpose of arresting him, of his personal and apartment control. The prosecution says there is evidence implicating former minister with the group of brothers Habilaj. The latter, in the wiretapping file of the Italian authorities, mention in their conversations Tahiri’s name.

The Council of Mandates and Immunity failed to reach consensus and decided to address the parliament with two reports, that of the opposition, which fully supported the prosecution’s request and that of the majority, which objected to the arrest for lack of evidence, but approved the investigation and controls against Tahiri./tvklan.al
