Following Prime Minister Edi Rama, President Ilir Meta also says the appointment of the provisional chief prosecutor has to pass through dialogue between the majority and the opposition. In his first statement regarding this issue, the head of state said that the election should be done respecting the constitution and that any unilateral step will have an impact on the independence of the Prosecution as a justice institution.

“This is an exclusive responsibility of the Albanian Parliament. As a president I want to emphasize as long as we are dealing with an important issue of a key justice institution that must respect the Constitution and its spirit and it is important to have among the key personalities a fast responsive and standard-based dialogue transparent solution to this issue, as any unilateral step would not help the independence of the institutions and increase the confidence of the justice institutions”.

At the joint press conference with Montenegrin President Filip Vujanovic, the head of state was also asked about the delay in non-definition of the proposal made by the Prime Minister for the name of Helidon Bendo, following Visho Ajazi Lika at the helm of the Information Service.

“We need to consider that such a decision-making is important and the president must be convinced that a final decision-making strengthens the independence and efficiency of such an important national security institution”.

As for the meeting with Vujanovic, the presidents expressed their commitment to strengthen further relations between the two countries./tvklan.al
