Albania still has to fight corruption, organized crime, and make progress towards integration into the European Union. These are some of the key points mentioned in the 2018 CIA report regarding the country.
According to this report, Albania must successfully achieve all the goals of judicial reform in order to pave the way towards European Union. Same as a year ago, the CIA underlines that corruption remains a major problem for the country, hampering foreign investment.
Another issue, according to the CIA report, is drug trafficking. It is said that Albania serves as a way of switching to South American cocaine, mainly from Colombia, but also for opium coming from some Asian countries. According to CIA, Albania is known for cannabis cultivation.
The report underlines that cannabis production has expanded and narco-trafficking organizations are active and are expanding to European countries.
“There is a high level of money laundering, related to the trafficking of narcotics, weapons, or other illegal labor committed by officials and criminals”,
reads among other things the report.
But the report has paid attention also to the Ilir Meta’s election as the President of the Republic, describing details of the voting process. In the 2017 parliamentary elections in Albania, the report states that the Socialist Party was the one that won the June 25th elections./tvklan.al
