Democratic Party leader Lulzim Bahsa ruled out any possibility for the Albanian opposition to boycott upcoming general elections to be held in June 18th.

“Democratic Party will take part in the elections and they will be fair and free. There is no other scenario,” Basha said.

“We will fight, face free and fair elections and we will win in free and fair elections,” he said.

Reports that opposition would boycott general elections if there would not be implemented the electronic voting and counting system, Basha said are just “cliché” of the government and its propaganda tools.

But, the opposition leader added that the fair and free elections are conditioned by the electronic voting and counting system.

He said that the electronic system would give an end to the contestation of elections.

For those who say there is no time as they are scheduled to be held five months later, Basha said “we can find the time”. “The time for free elections never ends,” he said, adding that the Democratic Party is open to any proposal that would help in holding free and fair elections.

Basha asked all Democratic Party regional heads to start the dialogue in the base to elect the MP candidates within mid-February. He requested that every single candidate to go through an integrity check.

During the last years, it has been often reported that MPs with criminal background had occupied the seats at the Parliament./tvklan.al
