The Prosecution for Serious Crimes has launched the verification Agron Xhafaj, brother of Interior Minister Fatmir Xhafaj. Prosecution’s verification have started after the Democratic Party’s allegations against minister’s brother for being sentenced in Italy to 7 years and 2 months in prison as an accomplice in a criminal drug trafficking organization and that he has not even been extradited.
Prosecution for Serious Crimes say they have pursued the case on a continuing basis following the allegations of the Democratic Party and have initiated verification in collaboration the anti-Mafia law.
Prosecutors are also expected to reveal all the procedures implemented by the Albanian authorities as well as specify whether the Italian authorities have issued an international arrest warrant for Xhafaj.
According to the file released by the Democratic Party, Agron Xhafaj was detained in 2002 in an anti-drug operation and was given a final sentence by the Court of Cassation in 2012./tvklan.al
