Interior Minister Fatmir Xhafaj received today the EU Rapporteur for Albania, Knut Fleckenstein, accompanied by the Ambassador of the EU Delegation in Tirana, Romana Vlahutin.

During the meeting, the MEP was acquainted with the priorities of the Ministry of Interior.

In a press release, it is stated that Minister Xhafaj expressed gratitude to Fleckenstein for his support to the Justice Reform, believing that the EU will provide the same support for the priorities related to public order and security. In this context, Minister Xhafaj presented the key priorities of the Ministry of Interior, also drafted with the assistance of international partners, especially the ‘PAMECA V’ mission.

Among them, the minister highlighted the Vetting process in the State Police; the fight against cannabis, the fight against organized crime; preventing the asylum seeker phenomenon and combating trafficking in human beings (especially minors).

Minister Xhafaj also briefed on the measures programmed to further strengthen co-operation with counterpart authorities in partner countries, particularly in the fight against organized crime and the phenomenon of human trafficking.

The senior EP official expressed particular interest in the Vetting process and concrete results in the fight against cannabis.

Fleckenstein praised the fact that EUROPOL will bring experts in Albania to coordinate work between Tirana and Brussels in the fight against organized crime. He expressed his commitment to ask the European Commission for greater support, focusing on the priorities presented. / Tvklan.al
