The situation of debts among the energy sector companies is aggravated. In total, it is more than $ 700 million of obligations that public companies have towards each other.

Unpaid debts within this market have emerged on the basis of an audit conducted by the Supreme State Audit, which recommends Albanian Power Corporation (APC), Transmission System Operator (TSO) and Electricity Distribution Operator (EDO) to resolve the debt chain, a task given from a Prime Minister’s decree dating to May 2015, for paying off debts and preventing the creation of new debts.

The largest debtor continues to be the EDO Company, which has inherited a huge amount since it was administered by the Czechs but which has created new obligations. Only to the Electricity Corporation, EDO has 537 million dollars in liabilities, most for energy bill receipts. The distribution company also has $ 119 million debit to the Broadcasting Operator, which has been added during 2017, and $ 84 million to private energy buffers.

The Transmission System Operator has $ 38 million in liabilities to APC, while APC itself has debts to the Tax Directorate.

Finally, the EBRD has approved a loan to pay off debts within the energy sector, which is expected to overwhelm the huge bubble created by firms in this market./tvklan.al
