Durrës city has proclaimed the environmental emergency,  unanimously  by  the Councilors of the City Council.

The right councilors asked the municipality to submit the environmental report to the National Waste Integration Committee at the government.

The mayor and the respective directorates are responsible for performing the procedures.

For the implementation of this decision they should be interested in all central institutions considered necessary to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.

The news was made known to the residents of Porto Romano, who for more than two decades are suffering the high levels of pollution. But they seem skeptical if the situation will change this time.

The field has been used for over 25 years and the current volume of waste at the moment of topographic measurements is around 530 000 cubic meters of waste. The waste lies in an area of 18 hectares and is uncontrolled. In the absence of processing, they are burnt on open ground causing massive contamination. Residents have protested several times.

In addition to the waste area at Porto Romano, an environmental emergency was also required to be announced in three other areas. It is about what is located in the Sukth, Manzar and Ishëm municipalities, though the level of pollution here is slightly lower than that of Durrës. The decision taken by the councilors comes into effect 10 days after the publication./tvklan.al
