Following his two-day visit to the Netherlands, the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, accompanied by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Fatmir Xhafaj and the Minister of Justice, Etilda Gjonaj, were received yesterday at a special meeting by the Mayor of Rotary City Council, Ahmed Aboutaleb. During the meeting, attended by other senior officials of Dutch law enforcement institutions, was discussed the integration process and increased cooperation between Rotterdam and the Municipality of Tirana on concrete projects.

Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj said that the purpose of this meeting was also the presentation to the Dutch authorities of European Albania and the reforms it has undertaken to deserve the opening of EU membership talks.

After the meetings, he seemed optimist about the support of the European Commission’s proposal to open accession negotiations.

He stressed that Albania deserves the opening of negotiations for EU integration, since it has made major reforms in strengthening the rule of law and economic development of the country, while stressing that the integration process should be the purpose of all Albanians./tvklan.al
