The government has approved this Wednesday the draft law that paves the way for launching the negotiations for the construction contract of Vlora Airport. The news has been announced by Prime Minister Edi Rama himself, which through a post on social networks writes:

“The government approved the draft law for launching negotiations on the construction contract of Vlora Airport. Soon I hope for Kukës too”.

A few days ago, the head of government announced that a Turkish merger company has handed over an official request to build Vlora airport. The offer was made by the consortium of three Turkish companies: Cengiz Construction; Kalyon Construction and Kolin Construction.

According to the proposal, the airport will be built in the area of Akernia near Vlora city. The value of the investment is 98m Euros and will all be provided by the private operator rather than the state budget. Then the management of the airport will have an investor group while the government will guarantee the risk of flight fluctuations. The contract form will be according to the Public-Private Partnership formula.

Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Damian Gjiknuri said that Vlora Airport will be bigger and more modern than that of Rinas.

Also, the government is studying alternatives to work in Kukes Airport and thinking of designing another in Saranda./tvklan.al
