Minister of Internal Affairs Fatmir Xhafaj, was received today in Berlin at a special meeting with his counterpart, Germany’s Federal Interior Minister Horst Seehofer.

Seehofer stated that “there is a green light for the opening of Albania’s negotiations with the EU”.

Minister Xhafaj spoke about the continued support that Germany has given to Albania.

“Today, with the overall progress, it is the right time for Germany to be in the forefront of the states that support Albania in its journey to join the European family”.

During the meeting, the two ministers discussed current issues such as illegal migration, border management and border management issues as well as asylum seekers in Europe.

Also, Minister Xhafaj told Minister Seehofer about the  achievements and progress that Albania has made on the path to European integration, especially in the fight against organized crime, fight against corruption and money laundering.

Further, Xhafaj focused on issues related to the fight against terrorism, violent extremism and radicalism.

Minister Seehofer expressed, inter alia, interest in the justice reform and police vetting.

Minister Xhafaj introduced his counterpart, a ten-point plan, which provides for areas of cooperation at institutional and operational level.

The two ministers shared the same view that the implementation of this plan will affect the further consolidation of friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries.

At the end of the meeting, Minister Xhafaj invited his counterpart Seehofer for an official visit to Tirana.

Seehofer said that “we will make all efforts for the cooperation between our two countries” and added he will visit Tirana soon./tvklan.al
