Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said Albania had a moral obligation towards Italy to host some refugees blocked on the “Dicotti” ship. Speaking for the Italian media, Rama criticized the European Union for leaving Italy alone in the midst of a severe crisis like that of refugees.

Prime Minister Edi Rama considers it a moral obligation, sheltering some of the refugees that were blocked last week at the Dicotti ship near the Italian coast. In a telephone interview for Italian television Telenord, Rama criticizes the European Union that has left Italy alone, in the midst of a heavy burden as the immigrant crisis.

“Italy has been one of Europe’s most welcoming places in the last 30 years, but it has been left alone for a long time. It is not that we can solve much in this situation, considering how serious the problem is. For us it was a moment of responsibility and we said we do what we can, hoping that Europe will wake up and solve this problem at a European level. It is impossible, and it is also disappointing those meetings and summits are held and again we see that Italy and Greece continue to suffer”.

Rama recalled that several years ago the Albanians were in the positions of the Eritreans who were rescued between the seas, their journey from Africa to a better life in Europe. The Albanian government on Saturday sheltered 20 of the 150 refugees from ‘Dicotti’ ship./tvklan.al
